Antics Only a Mother Could Love

When I was little, I'd occasionally fall onto the ground and flop around like a fish out of water. With my dad being an avid angler, it wasn't exactly an uncommon site to see fish flopping around at our house, so nobody ever felt alarmed because of it. When my mom would ask me what I was doing or why I was doing it, I'd respond in agony with, "Ughh, I neeeed cheeseburgerrr..." I did this semiregularly and it coincided with the number of straight days in a row, we would have fish for dinner. Which, meant she was rather acquainted with my theatrics.

Sometimes, my mom would laugh at how ridiculous it was and maybe due to pure amusement, my well rehearsed and dramatic show of love for cheeseburgers, would later result in her taking me to the nearby Burgerville, Dairy Queen or McDonald's. I would get so excited.

Less successful performances, it meant I practiced flopping on the ground for no beneficial reason and I'd have a bowl of rice with the daily fish special, or snack on cuttlefish jerky and shrimp flavored chips, just like every other normal Asian kid with food cravings would do.

Revisiting this memory, I realize now how silly it must sound, but truth to the matter is - I didn't choose the burgerlife, the burgerlife chose me. I'd like to believe my mom knew this as well, but I'm pretty sure she just loved me a lot.
